New Moon by Mr Cenz

Here we have a 2022 original spray paint artwork on canvas titled New Moon by the highly successful London-based graffiti street artist Mr Cenz whose work is found on the streets globally, often being described as ‘surrealist graffiti art for the soul’.

In New Moon, he combines all his freehanded technical know-how with a spray paint can, using feeling and movement to create a kinetic portrait of a strong, empowered and spiritual woman using his signature style, which combines illustration, photorealism and graffiti forms.

Mr Cenz – real name Julian Phetean – was discovered at 11 when he was commissioned to do his first painting. His creative side started to show back in 1988, and throughout his career was heavily influenced by hip-hop culture and street art graffiti after he discovered the style in a copy of Subway Art (a book by Henry Chalfant and Martha Cooper based on the New York graffiti scene). To develop his technical skills, he realised he needed to stop getting caught painting illegally if he was ever going to improve his skills as an artist, so he started working on commissions.
